How Hot Did It Get In Somerset County During Heat Wave?

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — The heat index shot up over 100 degrees during the weekend heat wave, according to the National Weather Service's heat index map.

The heat index hit 110 degrees in Somerset County on Sunday, July 21. In Middlesex County, the heat index 108 and in Mercer County, it hit 107.

Temperatures in Basking Ridge hit 95 and 97 in Hillsborough.

The forecast for Monday called for a high of 90 degrees with a low of 68, with severe thunderstorms possible after 3 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect through 10 p.m. Monday and a flash flood watch through Tuesday morning.

Here's the forecast for the week, according to the National Weather Service:

Monday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Low around 68. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Tuesday: Showers likely, mainly before noon. The rain could be heavy at times. Cloudy, with a high near 77. Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: A chance of showers before 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. North wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. North wind around 6 mph.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 61.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 84.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 62.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 86.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 64.
