Loved Hillsborough Grandma With Green Thumb Dies At 88 Years Old

Visitation for Lucy Muzzipapa will be held Friday. A mass will be held on Saturday followed by a burial.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Known as Mom, Momma, Gran, and Grandma, Lucy Muzzipapa of Hillsborough died on Wednesday at the age of 88 at home surrounded by loved ones.

"Her tireless efforts and sacrifices to her family have earned her a much needed rest. Of all the souls heaven bound the gates fly open quickest for Lucy Muzzipapa," according to her obituary posted by Hillsborough Funeral Home.

In her early years Muzzipapa was a home maker who enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, and baking. Later she became the cook at Hillsborough Middle School.

Muzzipapa and her husband Francis of 33 years still planted the garden every year filling a 600 pound freezer with enough tomato sauce, veggies, breads and applesauce to last until the next harvest, the obituary reads.

She also made plenty of jars of grape jam, elderberry jam, mint jam, peaches and strawberries. And she also enjoyed watching As the World Turns.

She was the daughter to the late Maria and Giacomo Gambino. She is also predeceased by in-laws Rosario and Katherine Muzzipapa, Louis and Marie Muzzipapa, Rocco and Eleanor Muzzipapa, dear family friends Peter and Evelyn Scrape and nephew James Muzzipapa.

She is survived by her brother and sister Benedict and Josephine Gambino, Hillsborough, sister-in-law Rose Marie Mapp, Federal Way, WA and goddaughter, Sandra Scrape, Manville. Lucy also leaves behind her four beautiful daughters, Mary Lahutsky, Somerset, Lucy Ann Muzzipapa, Hillsborough, Frances Krause, Somerset, Katherine Kurz and husband Chris, Washington, UT, her seven grandchildren: Michael Lahutsky and wife Valerie, Ashley Lahutsky, Justin Lahutsky, Gary Ross Krause, Hunter Roberts, Garin Kurz, and Hayden Kurz, not to mention countless nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Hillsborough Funeral Home, 796 Route 206, Hillsborough. Mass will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Mary Mother of God, 157 S. Triangle Rd., Hillsborough. Burial is at Neshanic Reformed Cemetery, 687 Amwell Rd., Neshanic.
