A Mother's Day Poem From Maria
"For any friends who have lost a loved one, I hope reading this will help you feel a peace and a joy."
In celebration of Mother's Day on Sunday, May 12, we asked Patch readers to write a letter to their mother and let us deliver it. This is Maria's letter to her mom:
I wanted to share a poem I wrote on the very first Mother’s Day after my mom passed eight years ago. Writing it brought me a sense of peace and a comfort that I struggled to find that first year. For any friends who have lost a loved one, I hope reading this will help you feel a peace and a joy that, although they might be gone from this world, your loved one is closer than you think.
Whisper
Whisper if you hear me.
I call you every day,
In my heart I find you
You’re not so far away.
The time we had together
Forever sketched upon my mind,
Memories filled with laughter.
There is no better kind.
I cried and kissed you gently the day you heard Him call
And then smiled and thanked our Jesus as He carried you
Down that hall;
to those illuminated gates of glory where pain does not exist and family there to greet you
Its only here you will be missed.
For Heaven’s gained an angel and how patiently did they wait,
Your mom, dad and others for this very special date.
So on those days so dreary when I long to hear her voice,
I listen quite intently as I know I have a choice.
To cherish those around me and surround them with my love;
And in those tender moments, I hear you whisper, "I love you," from the heavens up above.
