New Amazon Distribution Center Opens In Somerset

In celebration of the opening, Amazon donated $40,000 to Franklin Food Bank, which will feed 400 families of four for a week.

SOMERSET, NJ — Amazon's new fulfillment center in the Somerset section of Franklin Township officially opened for business on Sunday welcoming hundreds of new employees inside the 600,000 square-foot building.

In celebration of the opening, Amazon donated $40,000 to Franklin Food Bank, which will feed 400 families of four for a week.

"Due to the pandemic, our Food Bank's main fundraising events could not be held this year leaving a huge deficit in their budget while the number of residents needing food assistance has increased from 568 new families served in 2019 to 992 new families in 2020. Amazon's donation will go a long way in meeting the increased demand for food in Franklin," said Ram Anbarasan, Council At-Large, Township of Franklin.
