Route 206 Billboard To Showcase Hillsborough Student's Artwork

Jessica Hermann's artwork will be showcased to celebrate the community's strength and resiliency while navigating challenging times.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough High School Jessica Hermann's artwork will be showcased on billboard on Route 206 to celebrate the community's strength and resiliency while navigating these challenging times.

Hermann was among three winners of the BORO PRIDE Student Art Contest and Postcards for Kids contest hosted by the Hillsborough Education Association (HEA) Pride Committee. This project is funded through a grant from the New Jersey Education Association.

"The project was created with the goal of bringing our community together and sending some extra support to our students as they navigate these difficult times," said Henry Goodhue, Hillsborough Education Association president.

A few weeks ago, close to 200 student artists from Auten Road Intermediate School, Hillsborough Middle School and Hillsborough High School submitted artwork for the contest focusing on the theme of, "We are All in This Together."

The artwork was reviewed by a panel of stakeholders including BOE members, administrators, community leaders like Assemblyman Roy Frieman and Mayor Shawn Lipani, Shannon and Dave Winters from Sunnyside Gifts, Superintendent Lisa Antunes, BOE President Jean Trujillo and the HEA Pride Committee.

Three winners were selected, one from each school, and they were Akshaya Suresh-Kumar (Auten Road), Jeremy Csobor-Bray (Hillsborough Middle School), and Jessica Hermann (Hillsborough High School).

Their artwork was transformed into 1,500 postcards that will be made available to elementary staff to send an uplifting message to a student or celebrate their successes during such a challenging time.

Each of the winners received a $25 Amazon gift card.

Additionally, a billboard was rented on Route 206 in Hillsborough to showcase Jessica Hermann's winning design and celebrate the community's strength and resiliency while navigating the challenging times and strive for the "Best for BORO."

Building upon the message of "We are All in This Together," the Hillsborough/Millstone Municipal Alliance, in conjunction with the HEA, BoroSAFE , Hillsborough Stigma Free, the Hillsborough Township Committee and the Hillsborough BOE will host a live-streamed fundraiser talent show called, "We're All in This Together: Hillsborough's Hidden Talents." The talent show will showcase residents' talents in everything from singing, bands, juggling, comedy, plate spinning, poetry to silly human tricks.

The event will stream on Friday, April 23 and Saturday, April 24 and cost $5 per screen. All proceeds will benefit the important work of the Hillsborough/Millstone Municipal Alliance and BoroSAFE, which support mental health and wellness initiatives in town.

Student artwork from the contest will be showcased throughout the upcoming talent show.
