Virtual Christmas Tree, Menorah Lighting Planned In Hillsborough
A virtual Christmas Tree lighting and Menorah lighting is being planned for December due to the coronavirus pandemic.
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — The holidays will indeed be different this year in Hillsborough due to the coronavirus pandemic. The township announced it will host two of its annual holiday celebrations virtually in December to maintain social distancing among residents due to the coronavirus.
Christmas Tree Lighting
The annual Christmas Tree Lighting will be held virtually on Friday, Dec. 4 with Santa coming out to light the tree with many safety precautions in place. The event will be streamed virtually via Zoom and on the Township’s YouTube Channel.

"This is an annual highlight of the year for our community and despite the pandemic, we were hopeful to have some type of event this year, but have to be mindful of the safety precautions necessary. We look forward to seeing you on the Zoom," said Mayor Doug Tomson.

Festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. with some holiday music and video clips of previous events. At about 6:55 p.m., Mayor Tomson will welcome all Zoom viewers for the arrival of Santa. Santa’s arrival is expected to be at 7 p.m.
Menorah Lighting
On Friday, Dec. 11 from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. residents can join Rabbi Gluck and Cantor Wallach for Shabbat Chanukah.
Yahrzeits will be read. Prayers will be shown on the screen.
Residents are invited to bring their menorah and three candles.
