Wind Topples Poles And Wires, 1,900 Without Power In Montgomery

A wind advisory was issued by the National Weather Service for Friday bringing winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

MONTGOMERY, NJ — Heavy winds caused multiple utility poles and wires to topple in Montgomery on Friday afternoon.

The downed poles and wires caused Province Line Road to close between Cherry Valley Road and High Ridge Road.

PSE&G had reported more than 1,900 customers are without power as of 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The number has dropped to roughly 530. Power is not expected to be restored until 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

A wind advisory issued by the National Weather Service remains in effect through 7 p.m. Friday. Winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 45. Breezy, with a west wind 10 to 20 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 68. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday Night: A chance of showers after 2 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 48. Southeast wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Sunday: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. High near 66. Southeast wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Sunday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m., then a chance of showers between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
