Caregiver Volunteers Hosts Free Aging Sensitivity Webinar
Caregiver Volunteers Hosts Free Aging Sensitivity Webinar, to help people learn how to better communicate with their aging loved ones.

“Aging has a wonderful beauty and we should all have respect for that”. – Eartha Kitt
Now more than ever it is important to stay connected to the seniors in our families and community. Communication is key to this connection! As people age, the way their senses (vision, taste, smell, hearing, and touch) give them information about the world changes. Sometimes sensory changes can lead to isolation. With this in mind, Caregivers is hosting our first Free Aging Sensitivity Webinar on October 29 at 11 am to help people learn to communicate better, especially during a time of extended isolation.
Fran Pannella, Director of the Alzheimer’s Respite Care Program at Caregiver Volunteers will be discussing the importance of Aging Sensitivity and demonstrating what people can encounter as their loved one’s age. She will also talk about what seniors physically encounter as they age and how having compassion and patience as a community can help us all truly understand the signs of aging.
Aging Sensitivity training is fundamental when working or volunteering with seniors. By 2030, the number of Americans age 65 and over is projected to reach 71.5 million people, with nearly 10 million of them 85 and older.
At Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey, our volunteers provide free support services to seniors over the age of 60 so they can continue to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible. “We want to make sure our volunteers are educated and understand some of the things they can encounter with helping a senior,” says Megan O’Keefe, Executive Director. “Being able to show compassion, empathy, kindness and also being able to see the differences between normal signs of aging and possibly deeper issues is something we want people to learn about and be comfortable with, whether they are volunteering with us, taking care of a loved one or just meet a senior out in the community.”
Sensory changes can affect the lifestyle of the aging and they may have problems communicating, enjoying activities and staying involved with people, which can lead to isolation. At Caregiver Volunteers we are committed to keeping seniors connected and living in our community.
