CVCJ Founder Barbara Devlin Receives AARP-NJ Andrus Award
Volunteer caregiver, senior citizens, Alzheimer's Respite Care, community service

Presented for Dedication and Commitment to Community Service
Toms River (October 25, 2017)- Barbara Devlin, the co-founder of Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey, received AARP’s most distinguished award, The New Jersey Andrus Award for Community Service, at a ceremony held on October 25, 2017 at the Imperia in Somerset, NJ. Barbara and her husband Jack co- founded Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey in 1993 to help seniors to age in place with dignity in their own homes. What began as a small grassroots non-profit under her leadership has expanded to help over 12,000 seniors throughout Ocean and Monmouth Counties, behind the efforts of 1,100 volunteers.

The award recognizes the contributions made by exceptional community leaders in service to New Jersey’s aging adult population, while promoting volunteerism in service to others.
“This award acts as a symbol to the public that we can all work together for positive social change,” says Stephanie Hunsinger, State Director for AARP New Jersey. “AARP has long valued the spirit of volunteerism and the important contributions volunteers make to their communities, neighbors, and the programs they serve.”

ABOUT CAREGIVER VOLUNTEERS OF CENTRAL JERSEY (CVCJ)
CVCJ provides vital assistance to seniors, the elderly disabled, veterans, and caregivers of loved ones with chronic illness or dementia so they can continue living independently in their own homes. All services are free of charge and delivered by 1,200 volunteers to over 2,500 Ocean and Monmouth County residents over the age of 60, who no longer drive. Volunteers provide transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping, reassuring phone calls, friendly visits, and relief for family caregivers. The Caregiver Canines® program brings certified therapy dogs to the homes of dog-loving seniors who can no longer care for a pet.
