Measles Case In Lakewood; 17th In NJ In 2019
This is the second case in Ocean County in July, state health officials say.
LAKEWOOD, NJ — Another case of measles has been confirmed in Ocean County, the second case in July and the 17th case in New Jersey in 2019.
The state Department of Health said the person may have exposed others to the disease on July 10 through July 12 at a synagogue in Lakewood. Anyone who visited Congregation Belz, 18 Prague Place, Lakewood, during the following dates and times may have been exposed to measles:
- July 10 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
- July 11 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
- July 12 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
The Health Department announced a measles case earlier this month with exposure to anyone who may have been at the Center for Health Education Medicine and Dentistry (CHEMED) at 1771 Madison Ave., Lakewood, on July 10 between 1:45 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Health department officials are working with the Ocean County Health Department to identify and notify people who might have been exposed during the time the individual was infectious.
Anyone who visited the location listed above during the specified dates/times should contact a health provider immediately to discuss potential exposure and risk of developing the illness. If you have been exposed, you are at risk if you have not been vaccinated or have not had measles.

Individuals potentially exposed on these dates, if infected, could develop symptoms as late as Aug. 2.
Anyone who suspects an exposure is urged to call a health care provider before going to a medical office or emergency department. Special arrangements can be made for evaluation while also protecting other patients and medical staff from possible infection.
Earlier this year there was an outbreak of measles with 12 cases in Ocean County. That outbreak was considered over May 16.
