Measles Cases Up To 6 In Ocean County
Two more cases were identified last week, according to the state Department of Health. See the sites of possible exposures.
LAKEWOOD, NJ — Six people in Ocean County have been confirmed to have the measles in the latest outbreak of the virus, according to the state Department of Health.
The current outbreak began earlier this month, with the state announcing a laboratory-confirmed case on March 6. It was labeled an outbreak on March 15. State and local health officials are investigating any connection between the recent cases, the previous outbreak in Ocean County, or current outbreaks in other states, state officials said. An outbreak in Ocean County that began in late October 2018 and was declared over in January sickened 33 people.
There have been a total of eight cases confirmed in New Jersey — six in Ocean County — as of March 22, with one highly suspect case, that have potentially exposed individuals to the infection in New Jersey between March 9 and March 14.
