Trees Downed On Homes, Wires; 16K Without Power In Lakewood

Trees have come down on homes and vehicles in Lakewood according to reports.

LAKEWOOD, NJ — A powerful storm brought down trees and power lines across Lakewood on Monday, leaving nearly half of the township without electrical service.

There were more than 16,000 homes and businesses without power as of 8:30 p.m. on Monday according to the Jersey Central Power & Light outage map.

Multiple outlets were sharing photos of a tree that smashed into a house in Lakewood, apparently knocking a window completely out of the wall.

In neighboring Jackson Township, more than 17,000 of the township's 22,000 customers without power, and in Howell Township just to the north, powerful winds ripped the roof off a dugout at Howell High School.

At least two pole fires were reported in Lakewood.
