Raritan Bay Towns Brace For Coastal Flooding Through Friday

Batten down the hatches! Here's the schedule of when flooding will likely occur in the next three days as a nor'easter arrives:

ABERDEEN, NJ — A number of towns along the Raritan Bay, from Matawan to Belford, are preparing for the 2019 season's first nor'easter.

Aberdeen Township sent out a Nixle alert Wednesday morning, warning residents to prepare for possible coastal flooding starting Wednesday night through Friday.

The nor'easter is expected to hit New Jersey Wednesday evening. Minor coastal flooding is expected with the Wednesday afternoon high tide (at 5:44 p.m.) and the Thursday morning high tide (6:16 a.m.).

The risk increases from there: Moderate flooding is expected with the Thursday evening high tide (6:31 p.m.), Friday morning (6:59 a.m.) and Friday evening (7:13 p.m.)

Strong coastal winds ranging from 20- to 50-mph are also expected with this storm; tie down anything that can blow away or cause damage.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook and coastal flood advisories that are in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, saying flooded roads and strong winds could be a consistent problem for residents, especially for coastal New Jersey towns.
