Someone used an excavator to seriously damage a retaining wall at a controversial warehouse project on Cheesequake Road, say police.

SAYREVILLE, NJ — It is still unknown who committed a large-scale act of vandalism at a controversial Sayreville warehouse site on Jan. 6, said the Sayreville Police Department.
The construction site is the Ashland construction project on Cheesequake Road.
This is the site currently being turned into a massive warehouse complex that will house three shipping warehouses, and take up more than 1 million square feet, according to MyCentralJersey.

The proposal to open such a large warehouse complex has been met with criticism from many Sayreville residents, who say it will bring truck traffic into residential areas, and require tearing down hundreds of trees, according to their report.
Sometime between 3:00 and 5:00 a.m. on Jan. 6, someone sneaked onto the site and used the heavy machinery there to "significantly damage a new retaining wall that borders the intersection of South Minisink and Cheesequake Road," said Sayreville Police. They called it a "large-scale act of vandalism."
