Aberdeen Council Settles On Special Zones For Traffic Enforcement
Aberdeen Council tonight is expected to endorse a measure that will designate certain streets in town for speed enforcement.

ABERDEEN, NJ - The Aberdeen Council tonight will designate certain roadways in town as special enforcement zones in which if speeders are ticketed, they will be required to submit to mandatory municipal court appearances because "the safety of Aberdeen residents is of utmost importance," according to the resolution that establishes the 2018 zones.
This measure is on the Township Council consent agenda which means its terms have largely been agreed to and do not require further debate. If a council member wants to talk more about it, he or she can request it to moved from the consent list to the regular list but that typically happens only when an elected official has some sort of conflict and must abstain for legal or ethical reasons.
If no conflicts exist, then the roadways will get the designation the chief of police has requested "to ensure the safety of all," according to the resolution.
The designation of the zones requires that new signs be made and erected advising motorists of the labels and that speed is being monitored by the police department.
While the designation is for 2018, the measure will take effective immediately, according to the resolution.
The roadways targeted for special enforcement are Van Brackle Road, County Road, South Atlantic Avenue, Line Road, Prospect Avenue and the Cliffwood Beach side of Cliffwood Avenue.
The only exceptional to the year-long coverage is Lakeshore Drive which will be specially monitored from June 1 through Sept. 30.
Because this is being done through a resolution and not an ordinance, a public hearing is not required.
