Aberdeen Has Not Decided If Friday Night's Fireworks Are Still On

Aberdeen Township officials have not yet made a decision on whether or not to proceed with the fireworks rescheduled for Friday from July 2.

ABERDEEN, NJ — As Tropical Storm Elsa makes it way up the east coast, township officials have not yet decided if Friday night's fireworks will be held at Veteran's Memorial Park.

The annual fireworks display was rescheduled from last week to Friday due to inclement weather. Now, the weather forecast once again threatens the celebration.

"A decision on our Friday Evening Fireworks at Veteran's Memorial Park that were rescheduled from July 2nd has not been decided yet. With many factors involved, such as the amount of rain, wind damage and tidal surge, Township Officials will decide as the storm progresses," officials said in a notice sent out to residents.

Forecasters are calling for flash flooding, up to 60 mph winds and power outages Thursday night into Friday. In Aberdeen, officials said the worst of the storm should arrive in the overnight hours into the early morning hours on Friday. Two to 3 inches of rain is expected, as well as a possible storm surge around high tide at 8 a.m.

"With a constantly changing forecast, there is one thing that is absolutely certain. There is nothing the Township (and it's staff) wants more then to be able to have these fireworks for you tomorrow night, but your safety and the safety of everyone involved will always come first," the notice said.
