Aberdeen Issuing Permits So All Restaurants Can Do Outdoor Dining

You'll also see a tented common outdoor dining area set up at Aberdeen Town Square in the next several days.

MATAWAN-ABERDEEN, NJ — Everyone is excited outdoor dining can resume next Monday in New Jersey, and Aberdeen Twp. is trying to make it easier for all restaurants — even those that currently do not have outdoor dining set up — to do so.

The town of Aberdeen is now issuing temporary use permits for outdoor dining for restaurants that have an active food handlers' license but currently do not have approved outdoor dining. Restaurants that wish to expand their already-approved outdoor sections must also apply.

The temporary permits will remain in effect until October 31 of this year, unless extended by Aberdeen Township. The permit application can be obtained by contacting Paula Ramsay of the Building Department at: paula.ramsay@aberdeennj.org. The state’s outdoor dining protocols will be attached to the application.

“While many of our restaurants have done a brisk take-out business during the pandemic, others also want to offer their patrons the option to safely ‘eat out’ again,” said Aberdeen Mayor Fred Tagliarini. "A number of our restaurant owners have told us that they plan to move quickly on this, even though it will involve additional expenses. Our Building Department will do everything possible to expedite the permit process for applicants.”

Also, local property owner Jim Dolan is working with several of his tenants at Aberdeen Town Square to create a tented common outdoor dining area, according to Tagliarini.

“We urge those restaurants that want to offer outdoor seating to file their applications with the Building Department as soon as possible,” said Deputy Mayor Joseph Martucci. “Those that are tenants must also be sure to consult with their landlords, who have also been made aware of the rules.”

‘Non-essential’ retailers can also reopen June 15 in New Jersey, with enforced social distancing.
