Aberdeen Man Creates Soccer Team Named After Battle Of Monmouth

Because of his love of the game, Aberdeen's John Frusciante creates the Monmouth Generals, a soccer club named after Battle of Monmouth.

ABERDEEN, NJ - Monmouth Generals FC is an amateur soccer club that will represent Monmouth County and will play in the Garden State Soccer League Summer League beginning next summer. The Garden State Soccer League is the most popular amateur soccer league in the state, according to the founder of the club.

John Frusciante, founder and owner of Monmouth Generals FC, is enthusiastic about the creation of the club.

"This has been a long time coming, a lot of hard work but we are finally ready to have our soft launch," he said. "We hope everyone throughout Monmouth County likes the logo and the name of the club. I’m looking forward to the inaugural season next summer but that can't happen without the support of the local businesses.''

The club is named Monmouth Generals FC because of the Battle of Monmouth which was an American Revolutionary War battle fought on June 28, 1778 in Monmouth County.

The Monmouth Generals FC will be a community club. The goal is for local players to represent their community and for local residents to get behind their hometown team, said Frusciante. The Generals FC will be a club for everyone, he said.

"The club is not backed by rich owners but just a local resident who is passionate about soccer," he said. "The only way the Generals step on the field in 2018 is if we get the support from local businesses. Without local support, this can't become a reality."
