Matawan Mayor Joseph Altomonte, a Democrat, will try this year to unseat Republican state Senator Sam Thompson. Thompson represents NJ's 12th statehouse district and Altomonte will try to flip the district blue.

NJ's 12th state legislative district is a long, skinny district that starts with Matawan at the very north and then heads south to encompass all of Old Bridge, Upper Freehold, Allentown, Manalapan, Cream Ridge and into Ocean County. It is a formerly rural part of New Jersey that historically votes Republican. You can see it on a map here: https://www.njleg.state.nj.us/...

NJ 12 is represented by Thompson and Republican Assemblymen Rob Clifton and Ron Dancer, all running for re-election. Democrats seeking to unseat them are Altomonte for state Senate, with Raya Arbiol and Michael Palazzolla for state Assembly.
