
Police in Aberdeen responded to reports from residents that either were scammed or feared that they were a target of fraud.
A Gordon Street resident on Jan. 9 reported that his Social Security number was used to open “several” credit card accounts, police said. Special Officer Joseph Mason responded to take the resident’s report.
The next day, a Ferland Lane resident reported to police that he received phone calls from “individuals claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service,” police said. The caller demanded payment of taxes on property the man did not own, and Officer Darryl Richardson responded.

These incidents come around the same time that the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office warned that someone claiming to be from the organization was placing harassing phone calls and requesting money.
