Angelo's in Matawan Serving Up $10 Pies

Angelo's in Matawan is open and serving $10 large plain pies for hungry people looking for a hot meal after four days without power.

The pizza place lost power during Sandy on Monday as owner John Sanfratello was cooking pies to donate to the police department, fire department, emergency responders and local shelters.

With about fifty pies baked and ready-to-go, the power at Angelo's went out.

After the storm had passed, Sanfratello and his son hopped in his truck, drove to Lancaster, Penn. and secured a generator. By Thursday afternoon the shop had opened up and was packed with eager customers.

A large plain pizza at Angelo's is normally priced at $12.95, but in the aftermath of Sandy, Sanfratello is charging just $10, cash or credit.

"We're not really making any money on them, but..." Sanfratello said, shrugging as he boxed a fresh pie.

"We'll be open until we run out of gas or until we run out of food. Whichever happens first," he said.
