Boy Scout Troop 66 Plans the New Bob Shea Memorial Scout Pavilion

Troop 66 has plans to construct the new Bob Shea Memorial Scout Pavilion at our Onondaga summer campsite at Forestburg Scout Reservation, NY

Robert Shea was Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 66 for approximately 37 years. He led over 125 boys through the ranks from Scout to Eagle and made a lasting impression on each and every one. Bob joined Troop 66 in the early 1980s when his oldest son crossed over from Cub Scouts. Bob was a Den Leader in Cub Scouts for all 3 of his sons, and enjoyed it so much he became an Assistant Scout Master when his son joined the Troop. He stayed even after all 3 of his sons earned their Eagle Awards. Bob became Scoutmaster because he wanted to spend time with his own boys, but he also enjoyed the time he spent with all the other boys as well. In addition to his demanding job as a FBI Special Agent in NYC, he was dedicated to the Troop and the Scouts.

Bob exemplified the Scout Law in his everyday life, mentoring young men and providing them with the tools they needed to learn to become successful, independent and responsible adults. Bob Shea epitomized Scouting for so many of the boys and their families. He was always available for the parents and the scouts. He took the time to listen, to answer questions and motivate the boys to succeed. Bob always advocated not just to take fun trips and activities but to do them the “Scouting Way”, to develop skills, to show and earn respect, to think independently and to work as part of a group.

Troop 66 has plans to construct the new Bob Shea Memorial Scout Pavilion at our Onondaga summer campsite at Forestburg Scout Reservation. The Troop has traditionally spent Week 2 at Forestburg Scout Reservation in upstate New York each summer for many years. Bob would be proud to know the Troop continues this tradition each year and is undertaking this pavilion project.

The 20' x 40' pavilion will be located in the center of the campsite where it will be enjoyed by generations of scouts to come. This project will not only create a safe, functional, and permanent structure, but will also foster practical skills, teamwork, and leadership.
