Cambridge Park 5k Run/Walk for Owen-A Family Friendly Event!

Race in memory of Owen Taraszkiewicz during Aberdeen Day on September 29th.

Cambridge Park 5k

On September 29th, the 4th annual Cambridge Park 5k Run/Walk for Owen will take place at the Aberdeen/Matawan train station as part of the town-wide Aberdeen Day celebration. The race is run in memory of Owen Taraszkiewicz, who passed away in 2013 from a rare disease called HLH at the age of three. Owen was a student at Cambridge Park Preschool in the Matawan Aberdeen School District.
In 2016, an international organization called Where Angels Play built an all access playground at Cambridge Park Preschool in memory of Owen. A portion of the race proceeds goes back to Where Angels Play but the bulk of the money raised goes back to the students of Cambridge Park Preschool.
The Cambridge Park Preschool is unique in that it is the only preschool for the district and accommodates all of the special needs preschoolers in town. With the funds raised from the race, the Cambridge Park PTO has been able to provide developmentally appropriate therapy equipment as well as a music program for all students through The School of Rock.
The 5k begins at 8:45am in Lot#4 of the train station (on Atlantic Avenue) and will be followed by a children's concert by The Little Rockers Band at 10am. There will be activities for children; including face painting and balloons, bagels donated by Bagel Hut and fruit donated by Samaha Farm. Strollers and wagons are welcome on the race route, so bring the kids! Early-bird discount registration ends on September 17th.
