Cheesequake Elementary Named National Blue-Ribbon School

Cheesequake Elementary was named to the Blue-Ribbon Schools Program, a coveted national ranking from the U.S. Dept. of Education.

MATAWAN, NJ — Congrats, Matawan and Old Bridge parents: You're sending your children to a nationally-recognized blue-ribbon elementary school! Cheesequake Elementary School was named to the nation's Blue Ribbon Schools Program, an extremely coveted national ranking from the U.S. Department of Education of all the top public and private schools in the United States.

Announced by U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos on Thursday afternoon, schools interested in applying for National Blue Ribbon School status must first qualify by producing standardized test averages that are at the 85th percentile of national school norm. The U.S. Dept. of Education also looks at school history, educational philosophy, academic curriculum, instructional methods and assessments, school climate and culture, engagement with families and the community and school leadership.

Locally, Cheesequake Elementary joined Christian Brothers Academy, which also made the list. The entire list can be found here. On November 6-7, Secretary DeVos and the Department of Education will celebrate with the honorees at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.
