Fireworks Coming to Matawan Thanks to Local Sponsors, Mayor Says
With the help of local sponsors, fireworks will return to the borough this Fourth of July.

It's official. After a three year hiatus, there will be fireworks for the Fourth of July this year in Matawan.Â
"We are very appreciative of the support of our sponsors," Mayor Paul Buccellato said. "We're all happy we're able to do it this year."
The borough council voted Tuesday to accept a resolution "approving the discharge of fireworks in the Borough of Matawan in celebration of Independence Day."
The Matawan Recreation Department worked hard to make sure the borough could light the sky for Independence Day, Buccellato said, but it was the generosity of the Matawan Police Benevolence Association Local #179, MJ Buttonwood and Matawan residents James and Donna Tumulty that really made it a possibility.
The donations cover about $5,000 of the $7,000 grand total. The First Presbyterian Church also offered to be a site sponsor, meaning the fireworks will be set off from their property.
The show will take place on July 6, 2013 with a rain date of Sunday, July 7.
Serpico Pyrotechnics, LLC of Toms River was selected to provide the display.
