Founder of Support Group for Victims & Survivors to Speak April 9

Because She Is is a local nonprofit organization offering free peer support services for survivors of violence and abuse

Maureen Spataro, founder of Because She Is, a peer support organization for victims and survivors of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, will give a presentation on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Entrepreneurial Think Tank for Women, 479 Route 79, Suite 6-A, Morganville, NJ. Tickets are free but reservations are requested via Eventbrite.

Maureen Spataro is a native of Brooklyn, NY and a former Monmouth County resident, currently living in Middlesex County. A frequent speaker to groups of survivors of sexual, emotional, and physical abuse – and a woman who has experienced all three types of abuse beginning at the age of 6 – she understands the impact and benefits to a victim's healing when they are speaking directly with someone who has walked the path they find themselves traveling. In September 2018, she established Because She Is, a nonprofit organization that provides a location where victims can go that is run solely by survivors. It offers a place for any victim or survivor to be comforted in the knowledge that they are speaking to others who have experienced the thoughts and emotions they are trying to resolve, and that the trauma they have endured does not have to define how they see themselves or their lives. It is not a shelter, but a warm and welcoming home-like setting that hosts support groups and other activities – all completely free – on a regular basis each month. The setting for Because She Is, named Marilyn’s Place in honor of a generous benefactor, is conveniently located in Middlesex County, with attendees welcomed from communities throughout the region. Through her speaking engagements and presentations, Maureen Spataro hopes to raise both awareness and funds that will support the ongoing mission of Because She Is and the free services it offers.

Entrepreneurial Think Tank for Women (ETTW) was founded in April 2012. The group’s mission is to connect likeminded women who can network, build relationships, and learn from and support each other. They share experiences and ideas on time management, dealing with stress, personal development, and much more. ETTW gives back to the community through the ETTWomen Foundation, dedicated to offering financial, educational, and planning assistance to victims of domestic violence and emotional, sexual, and financial abuse.
