Freehold Challenges Matawan For 'Shortest' St. Patrick's Day Parade Title
Both parades are less than half a mile, but which is shorter?

The battle of St. Patrick's Day pride is on the line as Freehold and Matawan compete for the shortest Irish-themed parade.
With the tagline "Parade starts at 6; party starts at 6:05," it's hard to beat Washington Engine Company's swagger for throwing their third annual Shortest St. Patrick's Day Parade down Jackson Street in Matawan.

Measuring a mere 0.2 of a mile, Google Maps estimates it would take the average person three minutes to walk from the corner of Spring Street to the corner of Church Street.Â
Freehold's second annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, however, measures in even shorter. At 0.1 of a mile, the route runs from 51 West Main Street to 1 West Main Street. Although half the length of the Matawan parade, Google Maps estimates that it would still take an average person three minutes to walk it.

Regardless of distance, both parades will be followed with Irish food and festivities sure to please.Â
Matawan will offer corned beef, cabbage and potatoes for $6 as they celebrate their Irish pride at Washington Engine Company on Jackson Street. They will also sell commemorative t-shirts for $15 ($18 for XXXL).
In Freehold, local restaurants will be serving Irish dishes and drink specials as bagpipers play between 7 and 9 p.m.
Luckily, those bursting with St. Patrick's Day spirit can attend both parades, as Matawan's will be at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 15 and Freehold's will be at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 17.Â
