Keyport Woman's Food Poisoning Is Actually Surprise Baby: Report

A Keyport woman thought she had come down with bad food poisoning — and ended up delivering a healthy baby boy last Thursday, March 28.

KEYPORT, NJ — A Keyport woman thought she had come down with bad food poisoning — and ended up delivering a healthy baby boy last Thursday, March 28.

The woman is Patricia Crawford, who, according to her Facebook page, grew up in Matawan but now lives in Keyport with her husband, Evan Darragh.

Crawford told News 12 New Jersey that she couldn't sleep the night of March 28 and she got up to use the bathroom. That's where she delivered a baby boy.

"By the time I got back to the toilet area all of a sudden a baby came sliding out,” Crawford told News 12. “It was just like ... 'Oh my God. What are we even going to do?’ We [didn’t] have a diaper, a wipe, an outfit, a onesie. Nothing."

Crawford said that she and her husband had been trying for a baby, but had had trouble conceiving. She told the news station she had no idea she was pregnant, and she'd experienced no pregnancy symptoms in the past year. The only thing she felt was an upset stomach from time to time, and some "fluttery" feelings in her stomach area last week.

What's even eerier is that March 28, 2018 is the date Patricia's father suddenly passed away, exactly one year earlier.

Even odder, the baby was born at 5 a.m., which was the same time her dad always set his alarm for work, she said.

"It was like my dad came from heaven and said ‘You will no longer be sad on March 28 ever again,’" Crawford told News 12. "And it's really the best thing in the world."

The baby is named William James, after his deceased maternal grandfather.

Patricia's Facebook page is sprinkled with well-wishes: "Congratulations, guys! Beautiful story!" wrote one friend. "Just saw you guys in News12. Absolutely amazing! My best to all of you," wrote another.

"Congratulations! I had no idea you were even expecting," said one friend.

Clearly, neither did the new parents!
