Laurence Harbor Man Accused Of Sex Assault Loses Teaching License

An Old Bridge youth counselor accused of touching a boy under the age of 16 had his substitute teaching license permanently revoked.

OLD BRIDGE, NJ — An Old Bridge youth counselor accused in 2016 of improperly touching a boy under the age of 16 had his license to be a substitute teacher permanently revoked by the state Board of Examiners in January.

The man is Irving Acevedo, 42, of the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge. As Patch reported at the time, he was arrested in February of 2016, and charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Acevedo is a mental health counselor. However, the victim was not one of the children who received counseling from him, according to the Middlesex County prosecutor. He was accused of improperly touching the boy on multiple occasions.

Acevedo held a substitute teacher's license that expires in January, 2021. At their meeting last month on January 23, the New Jersey State Board of Examiners voted to revoke his license. Acevedo did not fight their decision, and agreed to relinquish his license.

The state Board of Examiners reviews and approves licensing and credentials for all New Jersey public school teachers.
