Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would have been celebrating his 90th birthday this year on January 15 and this year notes the 37th year since the law declared his birthday a national holiday. In the Matawan-Aberdeen area, the 26th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration will take place this Saturday, Jan. 19 at Matawan-Aberdeen Middle School.

This year’s theme focuses on youth and their aspirations, “What’s Your Dream?” Youth hold the key to the future and need to take the time to reflect on their own life and experiences in order to answer this question. Essay and art contest applications were distributed to local schools. The winners of the contests will be awarded at the event.

This year’s event will feature local youth talent with a headline presentation by the T.K.O. Dance Company of Newark.
