Teen Pedestrian Hit In Matawan; Driver Charged With DWI, Authorities Say
A 19-year-old man was airlifted to the hospital after he was hit by a car on Route 79 in Matawan, authorities said.

A 19-year-old man was airlifted to the hospital after he was hit by a car driven by a woman who was later charged with DWI, authorities said.
The teen, who lives in Newark, was crossing Route 79 from west to east, near Claire Court, in Matawan around 8:10 p.m. Monday, according to Charles Webster, a spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
The teen was hit by a 2015 Toyota Corolla driven by Bettina Policari, 47, of Matawan, Webster said.

The Newark man, whose name was not released, was airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, in New Brunswick, where he is listed in critical condition, authorities said.
Policari was issued a summons charging her with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI.) She was processed and released.

The investigation is continuing. It is being conducted by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART) and the Matawan Police Department.
