Police: Two Men Used Utility Ruse to Gain Entry into Aberdeen Home

An Aberdeen home was burglarized Monday after two men falsely represented themselves, according to Police Chief John Powers. 

Between 4 and 5 p.m. on Sept. 9, two males knocked on the front door of an Oxford Lane home. A female resident did not answer the door, according to Powers. The men then knocked on the back door. She answered the back door and the two males told her they were checking for water issues in the area, according to Powers. One man entered the home while she was speaking to the other and removed a wallet and a handbag valued at about $750. 

Both are described as Hispanic males, according to Powers. One was described as being in his 40s and wearing a black shirt and black pants. The other was described as being in his late 20s and wearing a red shirt with black pants. They were driving a newer black Jeep.

Officer Matthew McDow investigated the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the detective bureau at 732-566-2054.  

Residents are cautioned to demand identification from anyone representing themselves as utility or government employees. Any suspicious activities should be immediately reported to the police department.
