Probe Into Threat At Matawan-Aberdeen Schools

Police say they've found the source of a threat at local schools, but the investigation is continuing. Safety precautions are in place.

Police say they're investigating a threat against the Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District that was made on Thursday night. The district said "necessary safety precautions are being taken" by the authorities in order to open schools safely Friday morning.

The Aberdeen Township Police Department said it was made aware of a threat to schools via social media on Thursday night.

"Please be advised that we have located the source of the threat," according to the police's Facebook post. "At this time we do not find it to be credible. However, the investigation will continue."

Schools were open according to normal schedules on Friday.

The department said it is currently working with the Matawan Police Department and Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office in the investigation.

"This is an active and ongoing investigation at this time," according to the post. "We will continue to keep all security measures in place to safeguard all students and staff of the Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District."

The district issued a statement saying the "safety of our students and staff are of utmost importance. We will continue to work with the local authorities to insure that all safety precautions are met."
