Suspicious Incident At Matawan-Aberdeen Middle School Tuesday

A suspicious incident happened at Matawan-Aberdeen Middle School today, and police and the mom it happened to want residents to be alert.

ABERDEEN, NJ — A suspicious incident happened at the Matawan-Aberdeen Middle School Tuesday morning, and now police and the mom it happened to are warning residents to be alert. A Matawan resident reported that at approximately 8 a.m. this morning she dropped her child off on Matawan Avenue near Dogwood Lane for one of the last days of the school year.

As she began to pull away, a young man slammed on the hood of her vehicle, fell and rolled on the ground. He then got up and yelled at the woman, stating she had hit him. When the woman offered to call the police, the man objected and asked her for a ride.

It was then that a witness intervened and told the woman she had witnessed the whole thing and that she did not strike the man. The witness said it was a scam attempt. That prompted the Matawan mom to drive to police headquarters and report the incident. The suspect is described as a black male wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with a red T-shirt underneath and dark jeans, said Police Chief John Powers.

"I was too shook up to even have the presence of mind to get the witness' name," said the mom, who will not be named. "I'm still rattled! If this had happened to my teenage daughter or any of her friends it would've been seriously traumatizing."

Anyone with information or anyone else who experienced something similar should contact Aberdeen police at 732-566-2054.
