WATCH: Meet Monica Aksamit, U.S. Fencer from Matawan
When she's not in Rio, or teaching at Saint John Vianney High School in Holmdel, Monica Aksamit calls Matawan home.
Matawan, NJ - When she's not competing for gold in Rio, or working as a fencing instructor at Saint John Vianney High School in Holmdel, Monica Aksamit calls Matawan, NJ home. That's Monica on the far left (she's the tallest on the team).
"I'm really happy to have such strong teammates to help me on this trip," said Aksmit, as she and her fellow U.S. women’s Olympic saber teammates — Mariel Zagunis (from Beaverton, OR), Dagmara Wozniak (from Avenel, NJ) and Ibtihaj Muhammad (from Maplewood, NJ) — were interviewed on the "Today" Show with Matt Lauer and Hoda Kotb. Monica is a graduate of Matawan Regional High School and was three-time All-American for the Penn State fencing team. In fact, when she comes back from Rio (hopefully with a gold medal!), Monica will teach a fencing camp at Saint John Vianney from Aug. 22-25. Watch Monica compete Saturday, August 13 at 8:00 a.m. EST. Stream it live here: http://ow.ly/3crR3032eAz
