Woman Charged In Matawan Hit And Run Of Woman, 77
A Howell woman was arrested Friday and charged with the hit and run of a woman in Matawan​ last month.
MATAWAN, NJ — A Howell woman was arrested Friday and charged with the hit and run of a woman in Matawan last month. The incident happened March 9 and the Matawan woman still remains hospitalized as of April 3, although in stable condition, said police.
Jennifer B. Aretino, 36, of Citation Street in Howell, is charged with third-degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision with serious bodily injury and numerous motor vehicle violations, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni.
Police say Aretino hit the 77-year-old Matawan woman on Freneau Avenue in Matawan in early March. The woman was found along the roadside when Matawan police arrived on the scene.

Aretino was charged Friday morning and released on a summons pending a future court date.
At 6:57 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, the Matawan Police Department responded to a report of a body in the shoulder of the roadway in front of the Mediterranean Chateau, located at 27 Freneau Avenue.

Matawan Police arrived to find the female victim lying in the shoulder of the northbound lane of Freneau Ave. The victim was later identified as a 77-year-old Matawan resident. She was treated at the scene by Bayshore EMS and Hackensack Meridian ALS, then transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune Township where she remains hospitalized in stable condition.
The Howell woman was arrested after evidence collected at the scene by Matawan police officers led to the identification of the type of vehicle responsible for the incident. As Patch previously reported, police were looking for a dark-colored 2013 Kia Sorento that had damage to its passenger-side mirror.
After a routine traffic stop in Matawan this past Monday, March 29, Aretino was identified as the driver of the hit and run vehicle. She was arrested Friday morning.
If convicted, Arentino faces a sentence of three to five years in a New Jersey state prison.
