POINT PLEASANT BEACH – The community was coming to grips with two stabbings near the boardwalk in Point Pleasant Beach on Monday that led to two arrests, police said.

It was an incident, officials say, that reinforced their recent efforts to reduce alcohol usage and disorderly behavior.

The incident happened when police responded to a fight call involving a knife on the beach in the area of 300 Boardwalk, police said.

The two men were found with stab wounds and transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center, police said.

The two men were in custody Monday and there was no threat to the public, police said.

Mayor Paul Kanitra said the incident reinforces his town's effort to curb alcohol usage in the beach area – and Jenkinson's is suing Point Pleasant Beach to reverse that order. Read more: Jenkinson's Sues Point Pleasant Beach, Wants Alcohol On Beach

"I certainly hope Jenkinson's will finally see the light and drop their counterproductive lawsuit that undermines our ability to protect residents and visitors alike," he said.

"We should be working together as one on this front. This cannot stand in Point Pleasant Beach."
