Bookkeeper Stole $260K From Point Pleasant Boro Company: Cops

A 37-year-old bookkeeper was charged Thursday with stealing $260,000 from a Point Pleasant Boro company, prosecutors said.

POINT PLEASANT BORO – A 37-year-old bookkeeper was charged Thursday with stealing $260,000 from a Point Pleasant Boro company, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office announced.

Jessica Duffy, 37, of Brick was charged with theft and forgery after an investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Economic Crime Unit and Point Pleasant Boro Police Department.

The investigation revealed that Duffy, a bookkeeper at R.H. LeChard Marine Contractors in Point Pleasant Boro, misappropriated approximately $260,000 from the company during the course of her employment, according to prosecutors.

Duffy was not authorized to sign checks on the company account, yet she wrote numerous unauthorized checks to herself, forging the signature of the company manager on each check, the OCPO said.

She then deposited the checks into her personal account for her personal benefit, the OCPO said.

Duffy was processed at Point Pleasant Police Boro Headquarters and released on a summons pending a future court date.
