POINT PLEASANT BEACH – A fire damaged apartments near The Ark in Point Pleasant Beach on Sunday, officials said.
The fire was discovered by The Ocean Fire Co. and Point Pleasant Fire Co. No. 2 early Sunday afternoon when they were dispatched to the area of Beacon Gardens Apartments for a reported smoke condition, officials said.
First-arriving firefighters on the scene reported smoke coming from a 2nd floor apartment window, with fire starting to come from the window.

Command officials requested help and mutual aid to the scene. Truck 4305's crew gained entry into the apartment, searched for any potential occupancy and started to vent the roof, officials said.
Engine 4201's crew stretched a hose line into the apartment and made an aggressive knock on the fire.

Additional crews assisted with overhaul and knocking down any remaining pockets of fire. The cause of the fire is being investigated by Point Pleasant Beach Fire Marshal and Ocean County Fire Marshal's Office.
