Football: Point Pleasant Beach Beaten By Mater Dei, Prepares For Playoffs

The Garnet Gulls are unofficially projected to face Shore Regional in the first round

Point Pleasant Beach had a rough afternoon Saturday in Middletown.

The Garnet Gulls (5-4, 3-2) got a 64-yard touchdown from Joe Wegryzniak and a 36-yard TD from quarterback Jake Fioretti, but couldn’t stop the scoring barrage of the Seraphs in a 52-13 loss in a Shore Conference Class B Central football game, according to Shore Sports Network.

Point Beach qualified for the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group II playoffs, and unofficial projections by the Asbury Park Press have the Gulls playing at Shore Regional in the first round next weekend, the fourth straight year the two teams have faced off in the state pl.ayoffs.
