Girls Soccer: Point Pleasant Boro Advances To Sectional Title Game

The Panthers avenged last year's loss to Delran in the quarterfinal round of Central Jersey Group II

It took extra work, but the Point Pleasant Boro girls soccer team is headed to a state sectional final.

The Panthers (15-4-2) got a goal from Devon Wondolowski about 4-1/2 minutes into overtime, taking a pass from Bella Harter, to defeat Delran, 1-0, and advance to the finals of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group II tournament in Point Pleasant.

The victory avenged the Panthers’ loss to Delran in the quarterfinals of the Central Jersey Group II tournament last year; both teams were moved to the South Jersey section this year.

Point Boro will face Sterling, the seventh seed, in Point Pleasant at 2 p.m. Friday. The Silver Knights (15-6-2) beat 10th-seeded Pemberton 3-2 in the first round, then upset second-seeded West Deptford 2-0 and third-seeded Middle Township 2-1 to reach the sectional final.

Point Boro advanced to the sectional semifinals through familiar opponents, beating Shore Conference Class B South rivals Barnegat, the 13th seed, 2-0, and 12th-seeded Pinelands, 2-1. The Panthers won the Class B South title along the way.

Cameron Havens made seven saves for Point Boro.
