The Lift Gym In Point Beach Wants Everyone Healthy Amid COVID-19

Here's a gym that's been working to make sure everyone stays healthy – even if it can't help people inside – amid the coronavirus crisis.

POINT PLEASANT BEACH - Perhaps no part of New Jersey's economy has suffered more than indoor gyms, and it's still not known when they'll be able to reopen again.

The Lift Gym at 413 Railroad Square Plaza in Point Pleasant Beach has been making sure people stay healthy, whether they're inside the gym or not.

The Lift Gym raised just under $2,000 for the Feed Our Heroes Fundraiser, and then used the money to buy meals from local specialty markets and restaurants to help support them during the shutdown.

"They were all very willing and generous to jump on our cause," said Kathy Jennings, who owns the gym along with Matt Jennings.

The restaurants that helped were:

  • Colonial Market (Point Pleasant)
  • Coal House Pizza (Point Pleasant Beach)
  • Pete and Eldas (Neptune)

Over the past several months, the gym's "team members" delivered these meals to:

  • Jersey Shore Medical Center - day and night shift
  • Brick Hospital (Ocean Medical Center) -day and night shift
  • Point Pleasant EMS
  • Bricktown EMS

Jennings said the gym felt compelled to do something that would help support both the local small businesses and local front-line heroes during the pandemic crisis.

"We knew the heroes on the front line were really being tested and could use a good meal and support from the outside," she said.

The Lift Gym is still not officially open, but Jennings said it was given the green light by the state to start up outdoor classes and clients and coaches have adapted quickly.

"We are checking temperatures, wearing masks, sanitizing all equipment which is not shared during any of the classes and keeping at least 6 feet social distancing," she said. "We are doing the best with what we are allowed and looking forward to getting the go-ahead to open back up in the next few weeks."
