NJ Weather Update: Round 2 Of Snow As Crashes Reported

Here's the latest on the snowstorm that hit New Jersey. It impacted traffic: Here's how.

NEW JERSEY – A snowstorm hit New Jersey and brought some trouble to the region on Saturday, causing crashes on roads and major highways and delays at airports. (see road and air impacts below).

Nearly 4 inches of snow fell in some areas as winds gusting up to 30 and 40 mph were expected on Sunday (see the forecast below).

The National Weather Service had issued a winter weather advisory for 16 New Jersey counties. A hazardous weather outlook was issued for the rest of the state, which got a mix of light snow and rain.

The state Department of Transportation urged drivers to use caution and plan extra travel time. When you see plows and spreaders on the road, please slow down and give them plenty of space to work, the DOT says.

  • Crash on the New Jersey Turnpike outer roadway northbound south of Interchange 10 - NJ 440/I-287 in Edison Twp. All lanes open to traffic - vehicle on right shoulder.
  • Vehicle spun out on I-195 eastbound east of Exit 11 - CR 524 in Upper Freehold Twp. Left shoulder closed; use caution.
  • Disabled vehicle on NJ 24 westbound area of Exit 1 - CR 511/Whippany Rd in Morris Twp. Left lane blocked; 5 minute delay.
  • Crash on I-78 eastbound West of Exit 13 - NJ 173 in Union Twp. Left lane closed.
  • Crash on I-76 westbound at Walt Whitman Bridge in Gloucester City. All lanes closed 10-15 minute delay, use caution.
  • Crash on NJ 208 southbound South of Ewing Av in Wyckoff. All lanes temporarily closed.
  • Vehicle spun out on I-295 southbound North of Exit 30 - Warwick Rd in Lawnside. Right shoulder closed; use caution.
  • Vehicle off the roadway and a vehicle spun out on I-295 northbound North of Exit 56 - US 206 in Bordentown Twp. Right shoulder closed; use caution.
  • Overturned vehicle on NJ 10 westbound In the vicinity of Manor Ln in Parsippany-Troy Hills Twp. Right lane closed.
  • Disabled vehicle on US 46 eastbound at NJ 159/CR 627/Plymouth Rd in Fairfield Twp. 1 lane may be closed and detoured; 5 minute delay.
  • Icing on NJ 4 westbound between NJ 93/Grand Ave and Overpeck Creek in Englewood. One lane may be closed; 5 minute delay
  • Speed restriction on the New Jersey Turnpike in both directions from Delaware Memorial Bridge in Pennsville Twp to George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee; 45 mph for salting operations.
  • Road treatment in progress on the Atlantic City Expressway in both directions from west of Exit 28 - NJ 54 in Hammonton to east of Western Terminus - NJ 42 in Washington Twp; salting Operations in Progess; use Caution.
  • Weather-related issues on the Ben Franklin Bridge in both directions from New Jersey side in Camden to Pennsylvania Side in Philadelphia; expect delays.
  • Speed restriction on the Garden State Parkway in both directions from South of Exit 143C - NJ 124 in Irvington Twp to South of Exit 159 - I-80 in Saddle Brook Twp Clifton; maintenance yard conducting salting operation. Speed limit 45.
  • Weather-related issues on the Walt Whitman Bridge in both directions from Pennsylvania Side in Philadelphia to New Jersey Side in Gloucester City; expect delays.

  • Speed restriction on the New Jersey Turnpike - Pennsylvania Ext. in both directions from Delaware River Bridge in Burlington Twp to New Jersey Turnpike North in Mansfield Twp; 45 miles per hour due to roadway conditions.
  • Weather-related issues on the Ben Franklin Bridge in both directions from New Jersey side in Camden to Pennsylvania side in Philadelphia; THE SOUTHSIDE FOOTWALK IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER.
  • Vehicle spun out on NJ 17 southbound ramp to eastbound NJ 4 in Paramus. Partial ramp closure; 5 minute delay.
  • Vehicle off the roadway on I-295 northbound ramp to westbound Exit 65 - CR 649/Sloan Ave in Hamilton Twp. Partial ramp closure; use caution.Vehicle spun out on I-80 westbound West of Exit 42 - US 202/Littleton Rd in Parsippany-Troy Hills Twp. Left lane blocked 5 minute delay.

  • Mostly portions of central, northern and northwest New Jersey and east central and southeast Pennsylvania will be impacted.
  • The winter weather advisory was in effect until 10 p.m.
  • Slippery road conditions.
  • Snow was expected to move into the area by late Saturday afternoon. A brief lull was to occur occur after the first period of snow, but precipitation was to pick up again by late afternoon.
  • Precipitation was to end by late evening, possibly changing to rain near and south of the I-78 corridor.

  • Saturday: Snow before 5 p.m., then snow, possibly mixed with sleet. High near 27. South wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
  • Saturday night: Snow, possibly mixed with sleet before 7 p.m., then snow between 7 p.m. and 10pm, then a chance of rain and snow showers after 10pm. Temperature rising to around 33 by 11 p.m. South wind around 10 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
  • Sunday: A chance of flurries with a slight chance of snow showers after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 35. West wind 11 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
  • Sunday night: A chance of flurries with a slight chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 18. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
  • M.L.King Day: A chance of flurries. Mostly sunny, with a high near 26. Northwest wind 14 to 16 mph.
