Offshore Grand Prix Returns To Point Pleasant Beach June 11-13
Last year's boat race was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.
POINT PLEASANT BEACH—After being canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Point Pleasant Beach Offshore Grand Prix will occur June 11-13.
After the year-long layoff because of the pandemic, both borough officials and officials from the Brick-based Offshore Powerboat Association (OPA) are happy to have the race make its return as it lost nine out of 10 races last year due to COVID.
“We’re excited to see everyone come out this year,” Roland Smith, president of the OPA, said.

“We’ve been watching the numbers every day, and New Jersey’s number seems to be flattening out, so I don't see any reason why we won't be able to run.
Race fans will be able to check out all of the boats as they will be parked at the train station parking lot on June 11-12, with race day on June 13.

Point Pleasant Beach’s mayor, Paul Kanitra, is looking forward to the race weekend as it’s a sign that everything is going back to how it was before the pandemic.
“I am so excited to be able to welcome the Offshore Grand Prix back to the best racing destination in the country, Point Pleasant Beach,” Mayor Kanitra said.
“This is a long-awaited first step on our return to normalcy. It’s also a huge shot in the arm for our business community and an eagerly awaited weekend of fun for our residents. We look forward to all of the festivities!”
