POINT PLEASANT BORO – PJ's Family Auto Care came to a halt at one time amid the coronavirus pandemic. But the owners never stopped helping Point Pleasant Boro.

Indeed, PJs was not "technically" closed because Patty and Joe continued using their downtime to help out their community by fundraising for the EMS and fire departments, said Chelsea Sweerus, a customer.

And during that time, they were advocating for the business community down to "just making checkup calls to make sure the people they serve are doing OK in these tough times."

"A+ family biz," Sweerus said.

PJ's Family Auto Care was among several establishments nominated for Patch's "Business of the Year" in Point Pleasant Boro as many businesses continue to battle through the coronavirus pandemic.

But it was these businesses, the customers say, that also came through for others in need – even as they were struggling themselves.

"They are by far the most honest, hardworking, caring people," said Audra Burghard, a customer.

Patty and Joe "go above and beyond to treat everyone like family," Burghard said.

"You are blessed to be considered a friend to them because you instantly become family," she said. "Their hearts are huge and they are selfless when it comes to helping others and their town."

Patch readers nominated a Local Businesses of the Year. The local businesses included retail stores, restaurants, hardware shops, dry cleaners, plumbers, car mechanics, salons and more.

Patch will feature nominated businesses in December.
