Point Beach Brings Back Bulk Waste Fees
The borough has spent $27,000 so far this year due to the abuse of people dumping bulk waste on a daily basis.
POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ – According to an announcement made by Point Pleasant Beach councilman Andy Cortes at the June 1 council meeting, residents must now pay to drop off bulk waste after officials found that close to $30,000 has been spent already this year by the borough to cover the fees.
Borough officials saw the decision to stop charging as a way for residents to avoid the fees incurred by bringing bulk waste to the local dump but instead, contractors who live in town were using the borough drop-off center daily, causing the $27,000 in fees incurred by the borough
“I was the one who brought it up over a year ago and thought it would be a nice gesture to the residents to be free, to the people that only come down on weekends, to renters who turnover on a Saturday when borough hall is closed,” Cortes said at the meeting.
