POINT PLEASANT – Point Pleasant Beach has installed a live-action camera in the high school gym so people can watch sports – just as two schools in the area have now gone remote.

Due to the rising number of students and staff who have tested positive for COVID-19, Point Pleasant Boro has decided to put a pause on in-person learning at Nellie Bennett Elementary School and will transition to full-time remote learning effective on Monday.

The remote learning will be in effect through Feb. 5th to ensure the safety of the school community, officials said.

Please note that Ocean Road Elementary School and Memorial Middle School will continue with their current in-person instruction schedule and Point Pleasant Boro High School will return to in-person instruction on Thursday, February 4th as planned.

Contact tracing will continue to determine if the people with positive test results had close contact with any others while at school.

In Point Pleasant Beach, the district learned about a COVID positive case at Antrim Elementary School that resulted in the identification of a large number of close contacts.

As a result, Antrim Elementary School students will transition to remote learning until Feb. 8th.

The schools went remote as Point Pleasant Beach Superintendent Will Smith announced that a tracking camera will allow families to watch winter sports amid the COVID pandemic.

"This is obviously a boon for wrestling and basketball fans," he said.

Smith said people will have to pay a small subscription fee to watch.

The superintendent also said that a similar setup is being worked on for outdoor sports such as football.
