A small tax increase was proposed in the Point Pleasant Boro schools budget as the district deals with "devastating" cuts in aid.

POINT PLEASANT BORO – A small tax increase was proposed in the Point Pleasant Boro schools budget as the district deals with "devastating" cuts in aid.
School officials announced this past week in the district's budget video presentation that the average tax increase would be $60 annually for the average assessed property value, which is $391,800.

The district was proud of the low tax increase given the state's "devastating" cuts under the "S-2" state law that is intended to reroute money toward pourer districts.

School officials say they have several goals in mind under the proposed budget:

- Continued integrated focus on mental health and wellness supports across all grade levels
- Focus on targeted instruction to identify areas of acceleration to ensure students are working on or above grade level
- Hightened focus on benchmark assessments to identify mastery of key grade-level concepts and standards
- K-12 social studies review with a focus on the new standards
- Continued training to support target interventions and extensions for all learners
