Point Pleasant Boro Man Killed In Crash

A Point Pleasant man was killed in an accident on Sunday, police said.

POINT PLEASANT BORO – A Point Pleasant man was killed in an accident on Sunday, police said.

The crash happened at 2:25 p.m. when the Brick Township Police Department responded to the intersection of Burnt Tavern Road and Spiral Drive on a report of a crash involving a motor vehicle and a motorcycle.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a 2013 Hyundai Elantra turned left from Spiral Drive to travel north on Burnt Tavern Road, police said.

A 2003 Bourget Custom Motorcycle traveling south on Burnt Tavern Road, and had the right of way. As the Elantra attempted to make a left turn onto Burnt Tavern Road, the motorcycle collided at the intersection.

The driver of the motorcycle, Christos Michael, 59, of Point Pleasant was thrown from the motorcycle, police said.

The Brick Township Police Department’s Patrol Units and Emergency Medical Services along with Robert Wood Johnson Paramedics responded to the scene. Michael suffered lower body and internal injuries and succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

The Brick Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit responded to the scene to investigate the crash. Vehicular traffic on Burnt Tavern Road northbound and southbound was detoured around the crash scene for approximately five hours during the investigation.

An ongoing investigation is being conducted by Brick Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit and the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.

This accident is under investigation by Ptl. David Thergesen #249 from the Brick Township Traffic Safety Unit and Det Anthony Carrington #35182 from the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.
