William C. Coffin Sr. Of Point Pleasant Dies at 81

Former longtime Point Pleasant resident died in Fort Pierce, Florida on Nov. 2

William C. Coffin Sr. of Fort Pierce, FL and Point Pleasant passed away on Thursday, Nov. 2 in Florida. He was 81.

He was born in East Orange, and lived in Point Pleasant for most of his life.

Bill was a member of Rotary International, and a Paul Harris Fellow. Bill was a member of the Masons-Durand Lodge. He was a graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School and Bryant College. His career in banking spanned several decades. Bill was a member of the Point Pleasant Beach and the St. Lucie County Historical societies.

Bill was predeceased by his wife Phebe, and his parents, John and Margaret Coffin. Bill is survived by his five children: John and Nancy Coffin of Aberdeen, Bill and Elizabeth Coffin of Basking Ridge, David and Laura Coffin of Brick Township, Holly and Jim Harris of Point Pleasant Beach, and Heidi Brower of Bayville. Bill is also survived by his dear friend and partner, Marje Ritter of Point Pleasant, his brother Phil of Las Vegas, eight grandchildren, and four 4 great-grandchildren.

Bill was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing many rounds with his sons and grandsons - especially for the Coffin Cup. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

One of the things we miss will be his granddaddy jokes.

Viewing hours will be held on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m at Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Avenue, Point Pleasant Beach. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Nov. 17, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Methodist Church, 423 West Lake Avenue, Bay Head, NJ. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle, NJ.

Donations may be made in his memory to St. Gregory's Pantry in Point Pleasant Beach, and the Super Heroes of Hope Foundation, P.O. Box 7; Wickatunck, NJ.
